There’s six key points that have to be remembered as to why the post office needs a new location. The location is not suitable for productive use!
- Severe Parking Shortages: The current facility lacks adequate parking, making it difficult for patrons to find convenient spots, particularly during peak hours. Employees occupy many of the available spaces, leaving no direct spots for handicapped and elderly patrons.
- Inadequate Accessibility: The post office lacks essential accessibility features, such as a handicap button for the door, making it challenging for individuals with mobility issues to access services.
- Operational Inefficiencies: Narrow alleyways for delivery trucks lead to frequent traffic jams and incidents of trucks striking buildings or other objects. This hinders efficient mail delivery and creates safety hazards.
- Community Growth: The post office serves not only the 8,500 residents within city limits but also an estimated 14,000 people within a five-mile radius. The current facility cannot accommodate this growing demand.
- Unsuitable Original Design: The building was originally designed for more foot traffic than vehicular traffic, which is not suitable for modern needs. The lack of sufficient parking often forces patrons to park illegally, sometimes blocking fire hydrants.
- Broad Support for Relocation: There is strong backing from local government, businesses, civic organizations, and residents for moving the post office to a more accessible, convenient, and future-proof location that better serves the community’s needs.
